 A Fresh Side Order of

Perspective

It’s time to get personal. I’m going to be honest, I don’t understand what is going through the minds of most men. Yes I am pointing the finger at men because I seem to have a much easier time understanding women. I can spot a woman’s motives, what they care about and all that good stuff. Yet when it comes to a man it seems to become much more complicated and confusing. What exactly am I confused about? That really depends on the man in question. But what all men seem to have in common in my eyes is that they are confusing.

I guess to properly restate the subject at hand I should say that ‘relationships’ are confusing. People don’t really matter until you’ve developed some type of relationship with them, even if it’s only in your mind. How could anyone possibly matter if you have no type of relations? There are millions of people in the world and no one has met even a quarter of them. To plainly state my own love life I would like to consider myself a single person who dates…sometimes I date one person for a long period of time. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to be a pessimist about relationships but until you get married relationships are really fickle. You like them, you don’t like them, you last a year or two and then split on ‘mutual’ terms. I am trying not to let my slight bitterness about breaking up with my boyfriend recently infect this page.

Being with someone is a very wonderful thing. You have someone to care for and care for you, someone to create plans with, carry out your plans with, and in some cases channel your sexual energy into. All of these things translate as positivity into all the aspects of your life and make your life just that much more beautiful. Also, being with someone can be hard work but when you are not reaping everything you put into it, I think something is wrong. Make sure that when you get with someone that you are comfortable with where they are and where they are going because chances are, they may be there for a while.

Music You Will No Longer Be Missing!

The Chronicles of TK
The Chronicles of TK

(L to R) Chillin in the parking lot gettin ready to part ways with New York, Me, Tynisha Keli, and Shanice

New York & Tynisha KeliI would like to begin by saying that this young woman is absolutely phenomenal. I discovered who she was a few

years ago but really got into her music late 2007. What was I missing?!? Her vocal

control, strength, & style truly impressed me, but what impressed me even more than that was that she wrote the songs she sung! These were no careless lyrics mind you. She crafted her feelings into words in such a way that it was extraordinary. That is where greatness comes into play, to do an ordinary thing in an extraordinary way. Few celebrities will take their valuable time and spend it with loyal fans…TK did. When she was on tour last fall I was fortunate enough to meet her at the Galleria Mall in Dallas, TX and spend time with her and take pictures. It didn’t end there! She spent the weekend with me and my friends an

d even made a trip to my apartment with 2 special people with her. I’m not sure if I should be telling you all this but I want you to know just how cool she is. She snacked on taquitos, made jokes, and gave me serious advice (L to R) Smurf, ME, Tynisha Keli, New York, Shaniceabout the music industry, and helped me get studio time! How many celebs  do that? How many people do that for you whether they are famous or not? So you know we had to snap some pics with her. The photos you see have been taken in my parking lot, my apartment, and The Galleria Mall in Dallas. All in all this woman has a heart, a powerful brain, and with those two working in conjunction, she cannot be stopped!

The next reason why I believe that you should no longer

miss out on Tynisha Keli is because it is finally her time. Often times we look at where someones position in life is and how talented they are and disregard what it took to get there. She started her music career at 17 I believe (you can read her full bio here), and it has been a long road that she is still traveling. From her childhood to leaving home at an early age to switching record labels, this girl REFUSES to quit or slow down. You HAVE to admire someone like that. You can’t help but see the God in a person who knows that their situation does not define them, and totally recreates their life into what they want it to be. It is Tynisha Keli’s time to shine everyone.

Yours truly, with Tynisha's producer Tyrell and my best friend in the world New York! I didn't realize how short I was...Lastly, I want to say that you should listen to her music. You may be wondering why I didn’t say that first! Well, I want you to understand that for me, music is about the person. I need you to understand the type of human being that you are dealing with so that when you press play or buy, you are listening to her soul.

Robin Thicke

Oh My God I Love Robin Thicke!

His music really reaches me, I’m talking about ALL of it. I don’t think he has created a song that I have not heard & loved. The reason why you should no longer miss out on this talented man is because of his drive & skill. He too is an excellent songwriter and wrote the songs on his latest CD while in a depression. He received shortlived success from “When I Get You Alone”, the people wanted to invite him to parties no longer did, and his wife Paula Patton was away working on a movie. That is usually enough to slightly disturb any industry newcomer, but not Thicke.

His drive led him to keep striving and now he is bigger than he ever was. He took the songs he wrote during a depressing time in his life and gave them the light his energy truly deserved. If you haven’t noticed, I admire people who don’t give in.

Listen to his latest CD entitled “Something Else” and then trail backwards through his discography to see how far he has come. Pay special attention to “You’re My Baby” and “Dreamworld”. When you listen to the CD “The Evolution of Robin Thicke”, my favorites are “I Need Love” and “Complicated”. The lyrical content and emotion in these songs are incredible.

Elliott Yamin

Elliott Yamin’s single “Wait For You” received quite a bit of publicity through radio, television, and the viral world so it’s likely you’ve heard it. I want everyone to know that Elliott has more to offer than this fantastic song. I am going to be completely honest and corny with you. The first time I heard “You Are The One” I cried somewhere near the middle. The lyrics are so beautiful and well delivered. You are missing out on a truly great song and artist if you don’t give this song a listen. This is one of the few songs I can put on repeat with Ryan Leslie. Elliott is really easy listening and is likely the reason your significant other called you so sweetly the other night. So, you know the drill… visit his website and have a look around. Katana’s Pedestal guarantees that you won’t be disappointed.

Amy Winehouse

If you don’t know, now you know that you should never again miss out on Amy Winehouse. I fell in love with her music as soon as I heard it. I fell even deeper when I learned that she wrote the music herself. I think she is beautiful and grossly misunderstood. I have favorite songs from all of her albums but I must confess that I love her latest album the most.  My favorite song is “He Can Only Hold Her”, it has to be seeing how I listen to it every day. She has the perfect blend of contemporary, funky jazz & blues wrapped up in sultry, raspy vocals. Amy has a style all her own and so much of it! I will admit that the entire Amy Winehouse package is an aquired taste because she is one of the few people whom you will love or hate. I’m convinced that is why she gets so much press. Buy Back to Black and get the Amy Winehouse experience.

Chrisette Michelle

Chrisette Michelle

I first discovered Chrisette Michelle on Nas’ song “Can’t Forget About You” where she did more than just sing the hook. She amazed me with her voice. I couldn’t believe that in my lifetime I was witnessing a young lady who was so reminiscent of old school jazz legends. Her voice is very bluesy and carefree. I absolutely loved it. Because she baffled me I felt inclined to learn more about Michelle. I read her interviews and biography where I discovered that she is and educated woman. Not just educated in a college sense because that does not define education. Michelle has aquired and applied specialized knowledge, that is education.

She was “discovered” in a usual but uncommon way. Michelle sent a demo to an A&R at a specific record label and the listeners loved it. I know that sounds like nothing extraordinary but these days if you want attention from record execs, you take alternate routes. Chrisette Michelle is also a songwriter and composer (you know how much I like songwriters), and anyone who is writing the music they sing themselves is worth taking a listen. I say that because you will know that you are really listening to them. Stay on the lookout for this woman because she is on a move.

Ryan Leslie

I love Ryan Leslie. I think he is a very talented man. Definitely listen to the song “IRINA”, it’s my favorite song from him. Even to this day I don’t know exactly what the song is about but for some reason it intrigues me…he does too. Leslie’s creativity leaks through all of his music and therefore qualifies as one of the few people who can make me put their song on repeat. I can listen to his songs over and over and over and hear something a little bit different every time. Check out Ryanleslie.com for the official 411 on Ryan Leslie and his video blog. Gotta love the man! Listen to his music and discover why you like him.

 My Late Night Thinking…

Okay I know it’s late but I just have a few things on my mind and I can’t let you guys go another day without a blog! I have been really busy working on my finances, formulating plans, and acting on them. It totally consumes me and I don’t have time for much else, nor do I really want time for much else. Anything which does not bring me joy or advance me in some way to my goals is a complete waste of life. So I spend my day involving myself in my life. I know that sounds crazy like how can you not be involved in your own life? Well you may be suprised as to the number of people who want someone to do something for them. There are people who don’t do specific things for themselves believe it or not because they are waiting on someone else to do them! I say get the ball rolling yourself.

I’ve been rolling my ball since this morning. I’m tired now but my restless ways won’t let me sleep. I can’t sleep without believing that I have done several productive things for the day because it gives me a good start for tomorrow. Doing the best in this moment and enjoying it puts you in the absolute best position for the next moment. In other words if you have things that you plan on having in the future, you only need to enjoy THIS MOMENT and live it the best you can. Easy right? Well how many times do you attempt to live in the future by thinking of how great things will be when this, that, and the other is complete?

Enjoy your life now. Now is all that we have, the past and future are mere thoughts we must create or recall upon. The present is all that really is. If you would like to go even deeper into this subject read “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle. This book explains this philosophy (or truth in my eyes) completely.

Another thing… reality is WHAT YOU MAKE IT. You are the only one who can say what is real and what isn’t. Some say you REALLY need money to make money, others say you REALLY only need an idea. For some people poverty is real, everyday life. Some people are born into material wealth. For them that is reality and they may be completely ignorant to the fact that millions of people live in poverty and vice versa. What side of the fence do you want to live on?

If you never were taught what a wall was, never heard it referred to, then you would not know what a wall was! Is the wall solid reality or is it something which can only exist when we choose? The “wall” example is in our everyday lives! You are surrounded by things which have never been explained or exposed to you, but the only “reality” that matters is what you perceive. Catch my drift? This world is only what you want it to be. For me it is a place where I can let millions of souls see my own soul through creative expression. I can explore, learn, discover, love, hate, and take action. I’m not gonna front like everyday feels like a good day for me because it doesn’t. Some days drag along and I find it difficult to carry on. The day goes as my thoughts do.

Think about what you think about.

Meet Your Meat if you would please…

I’ve recently become friends with a lovely woman named Tiffany Janay. She is widely known as the hostess of The Hip Hop Entrepreneur and is also a writer. She allowed me to have an exclusive peek at her new e-book about her journey to veganism (is that a word?) where I learned lots of information about the foods that I eat. The book made me ask myself why I eat certain foods. She introduced me to this video in a blog on her Myspace page. Myspace.com/Tiffany_Janay. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge chicken lover who has recently been turned off to hot dogs because I found out what was in it. I’m open minded and so I took a look at the video. Isn’t it slightly disturbing to see the way that our “food” is being treated? Something Tiffany brought to my attention was that if dogs, cats, or penguins were being treated that way, there is no way that we would allow it to go on. The animals are being abused and that is the truth.

I do still eat meat.

I am slowly being turned off to eating certain things. Like sausage and hot dogs. For the record let me say that I loved hot dogs! So why would I stop doing something that makes me happy? You really are what you eat. I made a concious decision that I would become more aware of what I put into my body. Sometimes we eat things with no regards as to how it was cooked and what is really in our food. Then we wonder why we feel fatigued, unmotivated, or still hungry. Well what did you just eat?

I don’t want to begin a vegan movement. I love chicken philly cheesesteaks, at least for now. I simply ask that you give a little more care to your body. What do you take care of more…your body or your car? They both need certain fluids to maintain and must be cared for properly if you want them to last. What fuel are you giving your body?

Do your research.

Don’t take my word for it, don’t take Tiffany Janay’s word for it, go and discover it on your own. Look into it and I promise you will feel better just being AWARE.

How Important Are We To Ourselves?
